From a backyard gathering in 2010 to a thriving community serving hundreds of youth every year.
OUR BEGINNINGS
In September 2010, after a wave of highly publicized LGBTQ youth suicides across the United States, Sharon
Herrera created a safe space for LGBTQ youth
in Fort Worth.
What began as a small gathering in her backyard
has grown into a vibrant community of youth,
families, volunteers, and partners working
together to ensure every LGBTQ young person
has a place to belong.

Sharon works with Fairness Fort Worth to push forward LGBTQ+ protection at
Fort Worth ISD

Started virtual programs that connected over 200 LGBTQ+ youth during COVID

Launched the Prom Project. a Gold Award project of a transgender Girl Scout

a 501c3 non-profit

LGBTQ SAVES celebrates 15 years as a community funded organizationl; saving over hundreds of LGBTQ+ youth

A memorable prom experience for LGBTQ+ youth, planned by LGBTQ+ youth.

YOUTH PRIDE PICNIC
An annual celebration of community and joy with LGBTQ+ youth and families from all over DFW.

YOUTH PRIDE FESTIVAL
An annual event designed to empower LGBTQ+ youth through community and belonging.
2025 YEAR IN REVIEW

In 2025, LGBTQ SAVES continued expanding programs that support and connect LGBTQ+ youth across North Texas.Through events, volunteer leadership,and community partnerships, our programs created spaces where youth could feel safe,celebrated, and supported.
We also celebrated our 15th year, serving, supporting, and saving lives!

VOLUNTEERS POWER OUR WORK
LGBTQ SAVES is powered by volunteers who
plan events, mentor youth, build partnerships,
and help sustain our programs.
Their dedication ensures LGBTQ youth
always have a community to turn to.
In 2025, our community provided over 3200 hours of volunteer support!

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Every June, LGBTQ SAVES awards scholarships
to youth and volunteers who demonstrate
leadership and commitment to community.
These scholarships celebrate the next
generation of LGBTQ leaders.
